Remove the background from product photos
Product listings, catalogues and social posts often need the item on its own. BGRemoveX cuts the product out in your browser and saves it as a PNG, transparent or on a solid colour.
A quick workflow
- Open the product photo (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 20 MB).
- Choose Object as the subject, so the photo is never treated as a portrait.
- Press Remove Background.
- Zoom in on the edges. If part of the product is missing or some background is left, use Smart Select to outline what to keep or remove.
- Use Refine to feather or tighten the edge if it looks too hard or shows a halo.
- Pick Transparent to place the product on your own design, or White for a plain white background, and press Download PNG.
Plain backdrops are the easy case
When a product is photographed on a plain, even backdrop, such as a sheet of paper or a light box, BGRemoveX checks for that first and can separate the backdrop directly. For busier scenes it uses its background-removal model instead.
Photographing products for clean cutouts
- Use a backdrop that contrasts with the product: a light product on a darker background, or the other way round.
- Light the scene evenly and avoid strong shadows that touch the product.
- Keep the whole product in frame with a little space around it.
- Shiny, transparent and very thin parts are the hardest to cut out. Check them closely.
Stands, props and attached parts
Automatic removal decides what counts as the main subject. If a stand, lid, strap or label should stay with the product, outline it with Smart Select and choose to keep it. To remove a prop, outline it and choose remove.
White or transparent?
A transparent PNG keeps only the product, ready to place on any background. Many marketplaces ask for product photos on a white background, so the White option fills the background for you. Check your marketplace's own image rules, such as size and margins, before you upload.
